What is the WhatsApp Cloud API?
The WhatsApp Cloud API (sometimes called the WhatsApp Business API or Cloud API) is the official interface provided by Meta that allows businesses to connect their WhatsApp Business number to software platforms, customer service tools, and automation systems.
Meta hosts the API directly on its cloud infrastructure. Businesses access it through approved platform providers or directly as developers. It is the only method of WhatsApp automation that Meta explicitly permits.

What are WhatsApp QR bots?
QR bots (also called WhatsApp bots, unofficial API wrappers, or web-based WhatsApp bots) work by opening a real WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp Desktop session and controlling it through software — the same way a human would use the interface, but automated.
To connect, you scan a QR code from the tool with your actual WhatsApp app. The tool then reads and sends messages as if it were you using your phone.
This approach is unofficial. Meta has not authorised it. The software reads and writes to your WhatsApp account without Meta's permission, using reverse-engineered APIs or browser automation.

The real cost of using a QR bot
The short-term appeal of a QR bot is usually cost and simplicity — many are cheaper and require less setup than the official API. But the risks are significant:
- Permanent ban. WhatsApp detects unauthorised automation patterns and can permanently ban a number. You lose all your contacts and conversation history instantly, with no appeal process.
- Instability. QR bot tools break every time WhatsApp updates its app or web interface. Periods of downtime mean missed customer messages with no warning.
- Data exposure. Your customer messages pass through an unofficial third-party server. Depending on the tool, this can be a data security and privacy risk.
- No official support. When something goes wrong, there is no official channel to resolve it. You are dependent on an unofficial tool's developers.
